Locally famous hair dresser and drag queen, Rene Roberts, is no stranger to the San Antonio Party Elite. Rene, a fierce celebrator of Dia de los Muertos, decided to hold his first Ball at the Jump Start Theater in 2010. The event grows every year and is so popular that it is now held at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center on San Antonio's up and coming West Side.
Each year, the event raises enough money to provide a select group of high school seniors with a scholarship. Scholarships are named each year after a notable contributor of the local or national community who recently passed.
In addition to scholarships, each year Rene Roberts sends a portion of the proceeds to the food pantries of various Catholic churches to help those in need.
Aside from an admission ticket, each guest must be dressed in skeleton face to honor the spirt of the dead remembered. The event opens to ticket holders at 6pm at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Theater. Food and beer will be provided to participants; however if you are picky- bring you own bottle to the theater.
Starting at 9pm, sharp, be prepared to witness, and participate in, a Drag Queen Vaudeville Show- with live music, singing and dancing. Please bring cash to tip the performers as we raise money. After midnight - all the spirts will rush to the streets of San Antonio.
Saturday, November 4th - 6pm to 12am
